The Environmental Data Watermark adds the Temperature, Humidity and Atmospheric Pressure measured by the camera to your captured images.

Because the sensor is located inside the camera, its readings may be affected by camera operation, sunlight, airflow, and recent weather conditions. Follow these recommendations to obtain readings that more closely reflect the surrounding environment.

1. Use the recommended capture settings

For more reliable readings:

  • Set the capture interval to 1 minute or longer.
  • Enable Power-Saving Mode.

Frequent image capture keeps the camera active and generates additional internal heat. This can cause the measured temperature to be higher than the surrounding air temperature. A longer capture interval and Power-Saving Mode help reduce this effect.

2. Keep the Air Vent clear

The sensor relies on air circulation through the camera’s air vent and protective mesh.

Make sure the vent is not blocked by:

  • Dirt, leaves, or other debris
  • Tape or mounting materials
  • A wall, cover, or enclosure placed too close to the camera

Inspect the vent periodically during long-term outdoor use. Do not insert objects into the vent or damage the protective mesh.

3. Avoid direct sunlight

Direct sunlight can heat the camera housing and cause the measured temperature to be higher than the actual air temperature.

Whenever possible, install the camera in a shaded location or use a suitable sunshade. Make sure the sunshade does not block the lens or air vent.

If direct sunlight cannot be avoided, consider the time and duration of sun exposure when reviewing the data.

4. Allow the readings to stabilize

Allow approximately 15–30 minutes for the sensor to stabilize:

  • After powering on the camera
  • After moving the camera between indoor and outdoor environments
  • After a significant change in temperature or humidity
  • After an operation that may generate additional internal heat

Temporary changes during this adjustment period are normal.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the camera temperature higher than the weather forecast?

Weather forecasts normally use measurements taken at a weather station under standardized, shaded, and ventilated conditions. The weather station may also be some distance from the camera.

The camera measures conditions at its installation location. Direct sunlight, reflected heat, limited airflow, frequent image capture, or other camera activity may produce a higher reading.

A difference from the weather forecast does not necessarily indicate a sensor problem.

Why does the humidity remain at 99% or 100%?

Heavy rain, dense fog, or condensation may leave moisture on the breathable protective membrane, causing the humidity reading to remain very high temporarily.

Keep the vent clear and allow the camera to dry naturally in a ventilated environment. If necessary, gently blot moisture from the exterior surface with a clean, dry tissue. Do not insert the tissue or any other object into the vent.

The reading should gradually return to its normal range as the moisture clears.

Is Environmental Data a replacement for a professional weather station?

No. Environmental Data is intended to provide an on-site reference and add environmental context to your time-lapse images.

The readings reflect conditions measured at the camera and may be influenced by its installation and operation. If your project requires certified or calibrated environmental measurements, use dedicated professional measuring equipment.
