Understanding Power Saving Mode
Power Saving allows the camera to sleep between captures while shooting in Timelapse mode, reducing unnecessary power consumption. Use the guidance below to choose the appropriate mode and get more effective power savings.
Power Saving does not interrupt Timelapse shooting. The camera wakes automatically for each scheduled capture and continues shooting as scheduled.
Recommended settings
| Power source or requirement | Power Saving mode |
|---|---|
| Built-in battery | Auto |
| USB power adapter connected to a wall outlet | Auto |
| Power bank | Always On |
| Solar power system | Always On |
| Camera needs to remain awake between captures | Off |
Auto
The camera determines whether to use Power Saving based on the power connection.
-
Without external power, Power Saving is enabled.
-
With external power, Power Saving is disabled.
Auto is the default mode and is recommended for most situations.
Always On
Power Saving remains enabled whether or not external power is connected.
Use Always On with a power bank or solar power system. These are detected as external power sources, but their available energy is limited. Always On allows the camera to sleep between captures and reduces the power drawn from these sources.
Off
Power Saving remains disabled whether or not external power is connected. The camera stays awake between captures.
Use Off when the camera needs to remain readily accessible. This mode uses more power when operating with the built-in battery, a power bank, or a solar power system.
Get more from Power Saving
01 Use a longer Interval
The amount of power saved is closely related to the selected Interval.
A short Interval requires the camera to capture and process images frequently, leaving little time for it to sleep. When the Interval is 8 seconds or shorter, Power Saving may provide only limited benefit.
For more effective power saving, use an Interval longer than 8 seconds whenever your shooting requirements allow. In general, a longer Interval gives the camera more time to sleep between captures.
02 Consider the selected Output
The selected Output—Photo, Video, or Photo & Video—affects how the camera processes captured images and how much power it uses.
Actual operating time may therefore vary depending on both the Output and Interval, even when the same Power Saving mode is selected.
03 Match the mode to the power source
A USB power adapter connected to a wall outlet provides continuous power, so Power Saving is generally unnecessary.
Power banks and solar power systems have limited available energy. Because the camera recognizes them as external power sources, Auto will not enable Power Saving. Select Mandatory to reduce power consumption with these power sources.
04 Disconnect the app after setup
After you disconnect the app, the camera waits approximately 2 minutes before Power Saving takes effect.
If Power Saving is enabled, the camera can then sleep between captures and wake automatically at the next scheduled capture time.
Common questions
Will Power Saving interrupt Timelapse shooting?
No. The camera wakes automatically for every scheduled capture and continues shooting as scheduled.
Why is the power-saving effect limited with a short Interval?
A short Interval leaves little time for the camera to sleep between captures. Power Saving is more effective when the Interval is longer than 8 seconds.
Why does Auto not enable Power Saving with a power bank or solar power system?
The camera recognizes any USB power connection as external power. It cannot distinguish between continuous power from a wall outlet and limited power from a power bank or solar power system.
Select Always On when using a limited external power source.
How do I wake the camera?
The camera wakes automatically for each scheduled capture. To access it before the next capture, use either of the following methods:
-
Press the camera’s power button.
-
Wake the camera through Bluetooth using the ATLI Camera+ app.
To use Bluetooth wake-up, make sure Bluetooth Wakeup is enabled in the camera’s system settings.
